The Fairy Godmother...
My husband and I took mom and dad to Disney World for their 60th anniversary. We had dinner and a show at the Hoop De Doo Revue. Mom and dad were featured that evening as the special couple and danced the Anniversary Waltz. The look in their eyes … they were still madly in love with each other. Shortly after the dance, dad was whisked off backstage for a ‘surprise’. He was to play a role in the last skit of the evening…and lo and behold…. Out comes dad dressed as a Fairy Godmother…tutu and all!!!
We all were laughing hysterically – tears were streaming down our faces. Mom was laughing so hard she nearly fell off her chair. Dad hammed it up too…soaking in every moment he could on stage. He was dancing on his tiptoes, twirling around, blowing kisses to everyone. It was typical Joe Virgona!!!
Dad taught me to always keep humor in my laugh, no matter what. I use humor to get through the bad times. Even when dad was in the hospital, he had his humor…up until the very end. His motto of “Live, Laugh, Love” should hold true in everyone’s life. Live life to it’s fullest. Laugh, even when it’s not that funny. And Love…love yourself, love your family, your friends, and life. You don’t get a second chance, so make every moment seem like it’s your last.
I love you daddy and thank you for making me smile everyday.
