Life Story for Catherine T. Mannix

Catherine Theresa Mannix died on June 28, 2022 at St. Francis Hospital in Roslyn, NY.
Catherine Gleason was born in Manhattan on February 18, 1928. She was the second of four children born to William and Catherine Gleason.
Catherine attended elementary school at St. Leonard’s and was a graduate of Bushwick High School, both in Brooklyn.
Catherine worked for many years in accounting/finance at both Nabisco and Prentis-Hall. However, her first job was a summer job at Woolworth’s – but it didn’t last long once they found out that she was in fact 15, not 16, which was their minimum age requirement.
On February 6, 1954 she met her future husband, Jim Mannix, at a dance held at St. Brigid’s Church in Brooklyn.
Catherine and Jim were married on May 14, 1955. Over the next twelve years they welcomed their seven children: Jim, Larry, Peggy, Kathy, Tommy, Kevin, and Eddie.
In September 1960 Catherine and Jim bought their first and only home, in Woodhaven Queens, where they raised their family. They were devoted parents, actively participating in their children’s education and after school activities.
Their family continued to grow as their children started families of their own.
Jim preceded his wife in death on August 15, 2004, after a year-long battle with lung cancer. Catherine was tireless in caring for her husband throughout their 49-year marriage.
Throughout her life, Catherine was known for her strength, determination, faith, sense of humor, and dedication to her family.
She is survived by her seven children, their spouses, eighteen grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren, her sister Veronica Brady, multiple nieces and nephews.
