Life Story for Robert W Allan

Eulogy for Robert W. Allan

Robert Whiting Allan was born the first day of January in the year 1953. On the evening of 17 August 2021, Bob passed away peacefully attended by his brother Don and sister Mary at his bedside.

Bobby was preceded in death by his mother, Thora Whiting Allan, and his father, Donald Ferris Allan. He is survived by his siblings Don, Arthur, Karen, John, Debra, and Mary; by 9 nieces, 5 nephews, and other loved family members, including Aunt Marilyn and Uncle Don, Alicia, Noah, Joseph, Aften, and Sara.

Bobby was born and raised in New York City. He loved this old town and took advantage of so much of what the City offers. Growing up he sang in the Metropolitan Opera Children’s Chorus, played on his high school basketball team, sang and played in a rock and roll band, and owned and operated his own silk-screening business. He was a huge Yankees fan, a fan of the Rolling Stones, James Brown, The Temptations, and Four Tops, and continued dancing until his very last days. He ran 9 marathons and was a truly gifted athlete, musician, and artist. Robert served a 2-year volunteer mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in Los Angeles.

Robert believed that he could do anything he set his mind to do, so after re-building his home in New Jersey, he designed and built his dream-house in the Catskill Mountains.

Bob graduated from The High School of Music and Art, Brigham Young University, and New York University. He taught at Fairleigh Dickenson University, NYU, and for the past 30 years served as professor, mentor, and researcher at Lafayette College. There, he conducted internationally-recognized, ground-breaking behavioral research with his pigeons.

Bob was a devoted son, a loving brother, and a generous and beloved uncle.
