Life Story for Eugenia Lopez

Eugenia Lopez “Geña” was a caring mother, grandmother, sister and friend. She left this world unexpectedly on January 17, 2021 at the age 90.
She was born in Moca, Puerto Rico on August 15, 1930. She was the oldest of 5, with brothers Angel, Eulogio, Domingo and sister Placida Acevedo. At the tender age of 16 on her wedding day, her mother Gervasia Lopez passed away while giving birth to twins. She moved to New York in 1946, creating opportunities for herself and siblings after her mother’s passing. While in New York, “Geña” overcame many challenges and her blessing multiplied in through that journey. Eugenia successfully and single handedly raised three daughters, Mirian Lopez, Blanca Tomassini and Nancy Tomassini.
Geña was best known for her warm, funny and sassy personality. She was admired by those closest to her for her warrior-like strength and perseverance. She was a devoted catholic and was a member of St. Elizabeth catholic church in Ozone Park for 25 years. She found remedy of the trials and hardships in life through her devotion to the blessed mother and praying the rosary. She survived breast cancer and lived a life of gratitude, appreciation and love for those who surrounded her. She dedicated her life in helping raise her grandchildren and lived most of her life with her daughter and best friend Blanca Tomassini. In the end, roles reversed, and Blanca tirelessly cared for her aging mother and they were inseparable.
Gena lived her last days comfortable in the care of her loving daughter. Her legacy and memories will live in hearts forever.
